Our Cannabis Counsellor Melissa Finlay is one of the most recognized female advocates in Edmonton. Working alongside advocates like Janice and Bob Cyre and her husband Aaron Bott they sacrificed everything to bring our City MACROS. What began 11 years ago as a Mobile Dispensary, it grew into an actual brick and mortar building 7 years ago alongside a newfound passion Hemperfi. Creating unique and holistic products using Hemp while educating on the non psychoactive therapeutic benefits was a natural fit in the family. Countless Albertans benefited from the services provided.
Educating, healing and caring about their members was standard practice until July 22, 2015 when the EPS raided their peaceful life. Dragged through the court system until December 2, 2016 the Crown dropped the charges against the family and fined Hemperfi $6500 for housing an illegal business.
MACROS saved lives and as patient Melissa herself knows that best. Suffering from ailments like Osteoarthritis, Degenerative Disc Disease, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Endometriosis, Depression and Anxiety she found relief in the many different ways of consuming Cannabis. After years of self medicating, she spent 15 years fighting and self advocating for her doctors to prescribe her Marijuana instead of more OxyContin or Percocet’s. She finally was successful and became a licensed patient in 2013.
The Cannabis community is an important part of Canada and it can also be fun. Melissa has travelled to a number of Dispensaries in BC and enjoyed Hempfest, Dabfest and Praire Medicinal Harvest Cup. She has also taken the time to teach Cannabis cooking to a number of people at a local Edmonton Centre.
